Abe Suspects N. Korea Tested Warhead's Reentry Stability

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that North Korea’s latest missile test appeared to check the stability of a nuke-tipped missile reentering into the atmosphere from outer space.

Japan’s public broadcaster NHK said that Abe made the remark in a lecture in Tokyo on Tuesday.

Abe said Japan is concerned that the test will advance Pyongyang’s intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM) technologies, saying the G-7 countries should work together to put strong pressure on the North.

Seoul’s Defense Ministry said in a report to the National Assembly on Tuesday that the missile is a more enhanced intermediate-range ballistic missile than the Musudan missiles.

The ministry said, however, the warhead’s stable reentry into the atmosphere requires additional verification, and the missile still falls short of being labeled as an intercontinental ballistic missile.
