Special Envoy to Call for Pope's Prayers to Solve N. Korea Issues
President Moon Jae-in’s special envoy to the Vatican said on Monday that he will ask for the Holy See’s active support in the efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear crisis and bring peace to the Korean Peninsula.
Archbishop Hyginus Kim Hee-joong said he will soon meet with Pope Francis to deliver Moon’s message and also meet with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Kim, archbishop of Gwangju and chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, will meet with senior officials at the Vatican beginning Tuesday to exchange views on ways to settle peace on the Korean Peninsula and to enhance cooperation between South Korea and the Vatican.
In a letter to be delivered to Pope Francis via Kim, Moon was known to thank the pope for his special interests in South Korea and the Korean Peninsula, asking for his prayers and mediation for the resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue, reconciliation of the two Koreas, and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
