Nat’l Security Adviser Calls for Reopening of Inter-Korean Hotline

Presidential National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong has called for the quick reopening of inter-Korean communication channels, including a hot line at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
Chung made the remarks to reporters on Monday afternoon, following his meeting with Justice Party Floor Leader Roh Hoe-chan earlier in the day.
The head of the National Security Office said that it would be good to try inter-Korean dialogue beginning from working-level contact. He then said that cross-border exchanges can be possible in multiple fields, such as social, cultural and sports exchanges, as long as international sanctions against North Korea are not violated.
Chung said that the government will take a careful but flexible approach, as it would be good to try to resume cross-border exchanges gradually. He added that more discussions are necessary about how to prevent neighboring countries’ misunderstanding the government’s position.
