S. Korea, US, Japan's JCS Chiefs Discuss N. Korea's Nuke, Missile Threats

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) says Chairman General Lee Sun-jin held an emergency video conference with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts on Tuesday.
Lee told his U.S. counterpart General Joseph Dunford and Japanese counterpart Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano that North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs are becoming a serious threat not only for the Korean Peninsula but also the international community.
With Lee stressing the need for closer cooperation, Dunford said that the three countries must work together to maintain a “fight tonight” posture to counter the North’s threats.
The JCS said that Kawano shared the view about the need for closer cooperation to tackle the North’s threats.
Tuesday’s video conference, which lasted for nearly two hours, came as the North has carried out eight ballistic missile launches this year alone, with the most recent on May 14th and 21st.
