Foreign Ministers of US, Japan Agree to Strengthen Pressure on N. Korea

Foreign ministers of the United States and Japan have agreed to strengthen pressure against North Korea in response to a series of provocations by Pyongyang.

Japan’s Kyodo News said that in a telephone conversation on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida agreed to ask China to play a larger role in curbing the North’s provocations.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry said that Kenji Kanasugi, director general of its Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, held separate telephone talks with top U.S. nuclear envoy Joseph Yun on the same day and agreed that they would never tolerate North Korea’s provocations.

The ministry said that the two sides agreed to sternly deal with the North’s provocations in cooperation with the United Nations, the United States and South Korea.
