US Succeeds in Test to Shoot Down Mock N. Korean ICBM

The Pentagon said the U.S. has successfully intercepted a mock intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM) target in a test against a hypothetical attack from North Korea.
The U.S. Defense Department said in a statement on Tuesday that it conducted an intercept test on the premise that the U.S. mainland was under ICBM attack, and successfully shot down a mock ICBM target over the Pacific Ocean.
During the test, the U.S. fired a mock missile from near the Marshall Islands in the Pacific toward the mainland U.S. The interceptor missile was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and shot down in outer space over the Pacific Ocean.
The U.S. Missile Defense Agency(MDA) said the test used an interceptor missile featuring an upgraded kill vehicle.
It is the first time the U.S. conducted an intercept test against a hypothetical North Korean ICBM.
