WSJ: N. Korea Hacked S. Korean Web sites in Watering Hole Attack

A U.S. daily says North Korea appears to have hacked South Korean Web sites using the "watering hole" computer attack technique.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that South Korean cybersecurity experts detected intrusions in government-affiliated Web sites between February and May.
They concluded North Korea was behind the attack that affected nine organizations related to foreign affairs, aerospace and unification.
The daily noted the cyberattack involved a new technique that does not require tainted e-mail links or server assaults. A watering hole attack is a strategy in which the attacker observes the Web sites often visited by a victim or a particular group, and infects those sites with malware.
The report said North Korea’s cyber operation is known to have 13-hundred hackers with a dozen supporting organizations of five-thousand more hackers.
