Gov't to Approve 4 Requests by Civic Groups to Hold Contact with N. Korea

The government announced that it will approve four additional requests for inter-Korean contact by civic groups.

Unification Ministry spokesman Lee Duk-haeng on Monday revealed the plan to allow more inter-Korean meetings in the civilian sector, reiterating Seoul's position to allow cross-border exchanges that don’t undermine international sanctions on the North.

In the first such approval under the Moon Jae-in administration, the government late last month allowed Korean Sharing Movement's request to discuss a joint malaria disinfection program with its North Korean counterpart.

With the latest four approvals by humanitarian groups, Seoul has or will approve a total of 15 requests for inter-Korean contact.

North Korea, however, has not responded to any of the related fax messages sent by the South Korean civic entities.
