N. Korea Launches Multiple Cruise Missiles

North Korea launched what appeared to be multiple cruise missiles on Thursday morning.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) said the North test-fired several projectiles presumed to be short-ranged, surface-to-ship cruise missiles from near the eastern coastal city of Wonsan in Gangwon Province toward the East Sea.
The JCS said the missiles flew around 200 kilometers, adding that South Korean and U.S. militaries are analyzing the launch for more details.
The JCS immediately reported the launch to President Moon Jae-in.
It was learned that the missiles were not ballistic missiles, which multiple resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council(UNSC) ban the North from testing.
It is said that the latest cruise missiles could be the same surface-to-ship missiles unveiled during the military parade marking the 105th birthday of late North Korean founder Kim Il-sung on April 15th. The missiles were featured on top of mobile launchers with four launch tubes.
The launch comes ten days after the North fired a variation of a short-range Scud missile from near Wonsan. The missile was later presumed to be an anti-ship ballistic missile.
It is the fifth time the North has test-fired missiles since the launch of the Moon administration last month.
