N. Korea Claims Kim Jong-un Present at Launch of Surface-to-ship Cruise Missiles

Anchor: North Korea is known to boast through its state-run media after successful missile launches. Today was no exception as North Korean state-run media reported about the successful test-firing of several cruise missiles the day before.
Our Park Jong-hong has this report.

Report: Pyongyang’s state-run media reported on Friday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was on site for the test-firing of newly developed missiles.

In typical propaganda fashion, the report said "the launched cruise rockets accurately detected and hit the floating targets".

It also touted the enhanced technology of the test launch of the new cruise missiles.

The North's media said the missiles were the same ones displayed during a military parade marking the birthday of late North Korean founder Kim Il-sung on April 15th.

Calling them a strong means of attack against enemy warships, the media said the missiles can strike targets at sea from land-based launch pads.

On Thursday morning the North test-fired several projectiles from near the eastern coastal city of Wonsan in Gangwon Province toward the East Sea.

South Korean military said they flew about 200 kilometers.

It was the tenth missile launch so far this year and marked the fourth consecutive week of launches since the inauguration of President Moon Jae-in last month.

While they aren’t the ballistic missiles banned by the U.N. Security Council resolution, the South Korean government strongly condemned the test-firing as a grave provocation.
