'N. Korea Could Become Global Threat'

Senior officials of the U.S. and Japan have agreed that North Korea's nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) programs will make the reclusive state a global threat once they become successful.
Japan’s Kyodo News reported that U.S. Undersecretary of State Thomas Shannon and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's top national security adviser, Shotaro Yachi, shared the view on Tuesday during a meeting in Tokyo.
The two sides reportedly affirmed the need to send a message to North Korea that its nuclear and missile development will not lead to positive results.
They also agreed to beef up pressure against Pyongyang and demand China to play a more active role.
Shannon was scheduled to wrap up his Tokyo trip and head to South Korea for talks with First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam.
