U.S. State Secretary Rex Tillerson has called on China to take tougher measures against Chinese companies doing business with North Korea.
 
Tillerson made the request at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Wednesday, while emphasizing China’s active role in pressing North Korea regarding its nuclear and missile development.
 
Tillerson said it is necessary for China to take measures against organizations within China that support revenue streams to North Korea.
 
The U.S. secretary said he will raise the issue as a key agenda of a high-profile U.S.-China summit in Washington D.C. next week, where he and U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis will meet with their Chinese counterparts.
 
Tillerson said the U.S. government provided the Chinese government with a list of institutions that it believes should be subject to tougher measures. He said if China does not take action against them, the U.S. will act on its own.
