Spokesman: China Opposes Sanctions Outside UN Framework

China is reiterating its position Thursday that it does not recognize unilateral sanctions on North Korea outside the framework of the UN Security Council.
Reporters asked Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang about U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's call for Beijing to restrict Chinese organizations from doing business with the North.
Lu responded by saying China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, strictly abides by UNSC resolutions related to North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
He added China does not recognize independent sanctions on Pyongyang because it believes they do not help resolve the North Korean issue.
