Probe: Crashed Drone Departed from N. Korea

A South Korean investigation has discovered that an unmanned aerial vehicle recently found in Gangwon Province departed from North Korea early last month.

While announcing the results of its probe on the unmanned aerial vehicle on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry delivered the confirmation based on the analysis of the aircraft’s flight route and other scientific evidence.

According to a ministry investigation team’s analysis, the drone took off from the North Korean county of Geumgang on May second and flew to the THAAD antimissile defense system site in Seongju, North Gyeongsang Province via skies over the Military Demarcation Line.

The North Korean drone is said to have crashed in hills in Gangwon Province while returning to the North.

The ministry denounced the drone infiltration as a clear military provocation in violation of the Korean War armistice and a mutual nonaggression pact. It urged the North to immediately stop all provocations.
