Report: U.S. media outlets report that North Korea conducted another rocket engine test on Wednesday.

It is the first rocket engine test since the North conducted three in March.

Citing a U.S. official, Fox News said the test was conducted in the city of Yun Song, where previous rocket tests have taken place.

Fox said officials are concerned that the technology could potentially be used on a future intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM) capable of reaching the west coast of the United States.

Disclosing a photo, North Korea claimed in March that it completed the development of a new rocket engine.

It hasn't been confirmed if the latest test was conducted on the same type of engine or an improved version.

However, a U.S. official told Reuters that the test could be for the smallest stage engine for an ICBM.

Experts believe that the engine unveiled in March was loaded on the Hwasong-12 mid-range ballistic missile which the North test-fired last month.

If the latest engine is an improvement on the previous one, the North may have moved a step closer to developing a long-range ballistic missile.

South Korean military authorities said they are trying to verify the reports by sharing information with the United States.
