The U.S. State Department says that its downgrade of China to the lowest grade in a human trafficking report has nothing to do with China’s role in the North Korean nuclear issue.
 
Ambassador-at-large Susan Coppedge, the head of the department’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, said during a news briefing on Tuesday that the report is an accurate analysis based on facts about countries around the world including China.
 
Coppedge said that the state department doesn’t consider the report’s positive or negative effects on other issues. She expressed hope that countries will keep their commitment to their diplomatic promises regardless of the report.
