Unification Minister Nominee to Seek Practical Solution to N. Korea Problem

President Moon Jae-in’s pick for unification minister has called for bold but practical solutions to the North Korean nuclear issue.
In his parliamentary confirmation hearing on Thursday, Unification Minister nominee Cho Myung-kyun said that the North’s nuclear development is a desperate issue of survival for South Korea.
He pledged to sternly deal with North Korea’s provocations and threats while seeking to restore inter-Korean dialogue channels and ease tensions on the peninsula.
The nominee said that he will try to resolve the North Korean nuclear problem by improving cross-border relations while at the same time cooperating with the international community.
Cho stressed that the two Koreas should meet face to face to discuss and resolve various pending inter-Korean issues, including reunions of separated families. He promised to work to end national division and prepare for the future of a unified Korea through a creative approach if he is appointed as unification minister.
