Our Alannah Hill has this report.

Report: Washington has confirmed that the projectile North Korea fired on Tuesday was an intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM).

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday issued a statement, denouncing North Korea for what he identified as an ICBM launch.

While stressing that the ICBM launch represents a new escalation of the threat to the U.S., its allies and the world, Tillerson declared Washington's plan to bring North Korea's provocative action before the UN Security Council and enact stronger measures.

The U.S. top diplomat also warned that any country hosting North Korean guest workers, providing economic or military benefits, or failing to fully implement UNSC resolutions is aiding and abetting a dangerous regime.

He said the U.S. will never accept a nuclear-armed North Korea and called for global action in dealing with the global threat.

Tillerson’s remarks come as top security, military and diplomatic officials in the Trump administration held an unscheduled meeting in Washington on Tuesday to discuss potential options to deal with the North’s missile launch.

The UN Security Council is also set to hold an urgent meeting to deal with Pyongyang’s latest provocation as early as Wednesday, as requested by the U.S.
