S. Korea, US, Japan Nuke Envoys to Discuss N. Korea in Singapore

Chief nuclear envoys of South Korea, the U.S. and Japan are set to meet Tuesday to discuss coordination on North Korean issues, including its alleged first intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

A South Korean Foreign Ministry official said chief nuclear envoy Kim Hong-kyun will hold a three-way meeting with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts, Joseph Yun and Kenji Kanasugi, on the sidelines of the 27th Northeast Asia Cooperation Dialogue in Singapore.

It will mark their first gathering since the North launched its Hwasong-14 missile last Tuesday and also tails the first trilateral summit held among the leaders of the three countries last Thursday on the sidelines of the G-20 summit.

The nuclear envoys are expected to unify efforts to have the UN Security Council(UNSC) adopt a new resolution on North Korea.

They are also likely to exchange information regarding possible additional provocations by the North and coordinate a joint stance on conditions for resuming dialogue with the regime.
