Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha says she is considering talks with her North Korean counterpart at the ASEAN Regional Forum(ARF) set for early next month in the Philippines.
 
Kang made the remarks on Monday during a parliamentary foreign affairs committee session.
 
Asked to verify the government's plans for inter-Korean contact at the forum of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN), Kang said she is mulling options to make the most out of the occasion.
 
The foreign minister had said during her confirmation hearings last month that she would meet with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho if the circumstances permitted.
 
A ministry official, however, downplayed the top diplomat's comments, saying that Kang provided theoretical remarks and no specific plans are in place for foreign ministerial talks.
 
The ARF is one of the few multilateral ministerial meetings participated in by North Korea.
