Nuke Envoys of S. Korea, US, Japan Discuss N. Korea Provocation

The top nuclear envoys of South Korea, the U.S. and Japan have discussed possible countermeasures against North Korea following the regime's latest missile provocation.

The envoys met in Singapore on Tuesday and held talks about the North's test launch of an intercontinental range ballistic missile last Tuesday.

Seoul's Foreign Ministry said that Kim Hong-kyun, special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs at the Foreign Ministry, met his U.S. and Japanese counterparts Joseph Yun and Kenji Kanasugi on the sidelines of a regional security conference in Singapore.

In the meeting, the three sides shared the view that the July fourth Hwasong-14 ballistic missile launch is a grave provocation demonstrating significant progress in the North's missile capabilities.

The three envoys agreed to sternly respond to the North through the U.N. Security Council by adopting a new sanctions resolution and thoroughly enforcing existing ones.

The representatives also affirmed that cooperation with China and Russia is very important to exert effective pressure on North Korea.

Seoul's Foreign Ministry said the three sides agreed to continue strategic communication with Moscow and Beijing based on their tight trilateral coordination.
