US Presses Myanmar to Sever Military Ties with N. Korea

The United States has reportedly pressed Myanmar to cease its military ties with North Korea.
U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Joseph Yun visited Myanmar last week to discuss security issues on the Korean Peninsula and the Asia Pacific region, especially the North Korean issue.
A senior official at the U.S. State Department who requested anonymity said that Yun called on Myanmar to cease its military ties with North Korea during the trip.
The official said that Yun’s trip underlined U.S. worries over North Korean links that date back to Myanmar’s decades of military rule.
Myanmar’s military was believed in the past to have imported North Korean-made weapons and Washington suspects that such arms dealings are continuing even after Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi took power last year.
