Russia Opposes US-drafted UNSC Sanctions Against N. Korea

Russia has voiced opposition to new UN sanctions against North Korea over its recent missile provocation.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennadiy Gatilov said on Monday that a UN Security Council resolution drafted by the U.S. includes some measures that require very close discussions, including ones that Russia cannot accept.
The deputy minister said that Moscow has always opposed the North’s nuclear and missile tests and the UNSC resolutions should serve the purpose of stopping the North’s provocations, but unfortunately, the U.S.-drafted resolution does not.
Gatilov said that the UNSC resolution should not pursue the North’s economic collapse, but the draft includes such measures.
The draft circulated among UNSC members reportedly includes cutting oil supplies to North Korea and banning the employment of North Korean workers overseas.
