US to Enhance Sanctions Against Individuals, Entities Enabling N. Korea

The U.S. State Department says the U.S. will toughen its sanctions against individuals and entities that aid North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, including those in China.
Susan Thornton, acting assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, told a Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee on Tuesday that the U.S. will not hesitate to take unilateral measures against individuals and entities enabling the Kim Jong-un regime to pursue its strategic nuclear capabilities.
Thornton said that North Korea will never abandon its nuclear and missile programs in return for dialogue or economic concessions, adding the U.S. will never recognize the North as a nuclear state.
She also stressed that Washington will not change its conditions regarding the North Korean nuclear issue.
