S. Korea: No Sign of N. Korea's Imminent Missile Launch Yet

The South Korean military has stepped up its monitoring of North Korean missile activity amid reports that the North is likely to conduct another missile launch on Thursday.

A military source in Seoul said on Thursday that South Korea is closely monitoring the movements of the North’s mobile missile launchers, mobilizing combined surveillance assets with the U.S.

The official said that there was no sign detected of the North’s imminent missile launch as of 8 a.m. Thursday.

Currently, it is reportedly raining in the Kusong area in North Pyongan Province, the site of previous missile test launches.

U.S. defense officials have raised the possibility of the North’s test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile or intermediate-range ballistic missile on Thursday, the anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Day.

However, Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said on Wednesday that the U.S. cannot predict a specific date for the launch, saying the North’s nuclear and missile development programs are not tied to a calendar or specific dates.
