Trump Proclaims Thursday as Korean War Veterans Armistice Day

U.S. President Donald Trump has commemorated the anniversary of the armistice that ended the Korean War, proclaiming the day as the National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day.

In the proclamation made in a statement a day before the 64th anniversary, which falls on Thursday, Trump said the U.S. wants to honor the patriots who defended the Korean Peninsula against the spread of communism and remember those who laid down their lives in defense of liberty in a land far from home.

He emphasized that despite the death of more than 36-thousand Americans, the Korean War has often been labeled the "Forgotten War," situated between World War Two and the Vietnam War.

Noting that the North’s ballistic and nuclear weapons programs continue to pose grave threats to the U.S., its allies and partners in the region, the U.S. president explained more than 28-thousand American troops maintain a strong allied presence along the 38th parallel dividing the two Koreas.
