S. Korea Commemorates Anniversary of Armistice

South Korea commemorated the 64th anniversary of the armistice halting the Korean War in a ceremony on Thursday.
The Seoul Olympic Park ceremony brought together Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon along with government and military officials, Korean War veterans and families, and diplomats from United Nations member nations that came to South Korea's assistance.
The prime minister awarded medals to veterans Boonchai Distakul, a retired army major general of Thailand, and Peter Seiersen of Canada.
The armistice signed on July 27th, 1953 suspended the Korean War, but no peace treaty formally ending the war has ever been signed.
