DP Floor Leader: Gov’t to Continue to Pursue Dialogue with N. Korea

Ruling Democratic Party Floor Leader Woo Won-shik says that there is no change in the government’s basic principle of pursuing inter-Korean dialogue, despite another missile launch by North Korea Friday night.
He made the remarks at a party meeting on Tuesday, cautioning that unnecessarily frequent changes in government policies toward Pyongyang would only make the public more anxious.
However, Woo added that strategy shifts between pressure and dialogue are possible depending on situational developments and North Korea’s provocations.
Woo urged the presidential office, government and rival parties to jointly place top priority on ensuring public safety and national security, noting that the tense political situation on the Korean Peninsula has been further aggravated by the North’s latest missile launch.
He said that in this context, the government’s decision to deploy four additional THAAD launchers is an appropriate move to pressure Pyongyang.
