Japan Hopes New UN Sanctions on N. Korea Ready in Days

Japan’s Ambassador to the United Nations has revealed his hopes that a UN resolution imposing new sanctions on North Korea will be ready “in days.”

Ambassador Koro Bessho told reporters on Tuesday that there’s been a lot of work and discussions on the text of the new resolution and that Japan has put in some ideas which the U.S. and China are seriously looking into them.

" ...especially the United States as a pen holder and China are seriously looking into this. I hope we can get it done in days."
" ...we have to respond in a very clear and strong way, that we do need to make sure that the DPRK gets the message that they need to change."

The UN Security Council has discussed new sanctions against Pyongyang since it test launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile on July 4th.

U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said last week that Washington and Beijing were making progress in discussions on the resolution, but the true test would be what China has worked out with Russia.
