United States President Donald Trump has welcomed new sanctions adopted by the United Nations Security Council for North Korea, saying they will have a “very big financial impact.”

Right after the UNSC’s adoption of Resolution 2371 on Saturday, Trump wrote on Twitter that “the United Nations Security Council just voted 15-0 to sanction North Korea. China and Russia voted with us. Very big financial impact!"

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also hailed the new resolution, calling on North Korea to halt further provocation.

Abe said in a statement that it has become clear that North Korea, which launched intercontinental ballistic missiles, has become a grave and realistic threat, and that the new UN resolution clearly conveyed the international community’s message that pressure against the North must be raised to a higher level.
