Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for resuming six-party nuclear talks for North Korea's denuclearization.

Wang made the call on Sunday regarding the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2371 at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ talks in Manila, the Philippines.

The foreign minister said that the new UN sanctions on North Korea are aimed at effectively blocking North Korea’s nuclear and missile development, as well as resolving the North’s nuclear issue peacefully with diplomacy and politics through six-party nuclear talks.

He stressed that sanctions are needed but they are not the ultimate goal, adding the goal is to bring the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula back to the negotiating table.
