The government on Wednesday called on North Korea to refrain from making provocative remarks, saying such words are of no help to inter-Korean relations.

"Such remarks from the North do not really help in improving inter-Korean relations. The government will make consistent efforts to establish peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and also for cooperation and reconciliation between the two."

Unification Ministry spokesman Baik Tae-hyun unveiled the government stance as Pyongyang revealed it is mulling a military operation to contain U.S. military capabilities in Guam.

While calling for the full implementation of UN sanctions against the North, Baik also noted that the South’s military is maintaining full preparedness for various scenarios.
