Alliance Ready to Show Will to Respond to Threats against Guam

The South Korean military says the South Korea-U.S. alliance is ready to demonstrate its will to strongly respond to North Korea’s threat to envelop the U.S. Pacific island of Guam with missiles.
In a report to the National Assembly on Monday, Seoul’s Ministry of National Defense said the alliance is ready show its ability to respond to the North’s threats and will do so, if necessary.
The ministry said it could be demonstrated by a show of force by Seoul or jointly by the alliance, as well as strengthening of responses to the North’s nuclear and missile threats beginning with the Ulchi-Freedom Guardian(UFG) annual joint military exercise scheduled for later this month.
Other responsive measures include the deployment of U.S. strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula and discussions on additional joint military exercises.
