European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini urged North Korea Monday to refrain from any more provocative acts.

She also urged other nations including the U.S. to seek denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through peaceful means and not a military solution.

Mogherini, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, was addressing the escalating war of words between the U.S. and North Korea during an emergency Political and Security Committee (PSC) meeting held in Brussels attended by representatives of 28 EU member nations.

She stressed the EU is ready to support South Korea-led global dialogue with North Korea and called for utmost efforts to evade a crisis stemming from escalating tensions.
