"N. Korean Population Estimated at 25.5 Mln"

Radio Free Asia(RFA) says North Korea’s population currently stands at 25-and-a-half million, up roughly 400-thousand from last year.

The U.S. international broadcaster Wednesday quoted data released by the Population Reference Bureau(PRB) as forecasting that the North’s population will reach 26-point-eight million by 2050.

However, the U.S. nonprofit organization said that from 2030, growth in the North’s population is likely to slow down given that the North has entered into an aging society.

PRB said that the North’s population has expanded by more than 100-thousand every year since 2013 and the speed in population growth is forecast to slow down from 2030 with the ratio of the elderly in the total population becoming higher.

PRB estimates that people aged 65 or older take up ten percent of the North’s total population.
