Merkel: Doing Everything Possible to Ease Tensions on Korean Peninsula

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Wednesday that she is doing everything possible to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula through negotiations.
According to Reuters and German newspaper Bild, Merkel made the remark during a YouTube interview ahead of the federal elections that will open on September 24th.
Merkel said that she is completely against “the rhetorical armament” that is being used by Washington and Pyongyang. She then stressed that there is no military solution for this conflict and it must be worked out via negotiations.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel hailed China’s move to apply pressure on North Korea while expressing concerns over mounting tensions on the peninsula.
