38 North: N. Korea's Sohae Satellite Launching Site at Standby Status

A North Korea monitoring Web site has assessed that the North’s satellite launching station from where Pyongyang test-fired its Kwangmyongsong-4 satellite in February of last year is currently at standby status.
The U.S.-based "38 North" made the assessment on Thursday based on commercial satellite imagery of North Korea’s Sohae Satellite Launching Station from last Wednesday.
After analyzing the satellite imagery, Joseph Bermudez and Jack Liu, regular contributors to "38 North", said that no new engine tests have taken place since June 16th. They did say, however, that the entire facility appears to be “in an excellent state of repair.”
The report said that no activity has been spotted at the launch pad or the adjacent fuel and oxidizer bunkers. However, the report said that to the southeast of the launch pad, construction of a new structure, which has been under way since March, has proceeded extremely slowly.
The report assessed that no recent engine tests have taken place given that there is “no scarring seen on the apron of the vertical engine test stand and vegetation around the stand looks healthy.”
