Moon: Expansion of Market Economy Effective Way to Change N.Korea

President Moon Jae-in says expanding the market economy system would be a major way to change North Korea, citing tourism to Mount Geumgang in the North and the inter-Korean Gaeseong industrial complex as examples.
A presidential official said Wednesday that President Moon made the remark in a meeting with U.S. lawmakers on Monday.
Moon said that introducing the North Korean people to a market economy and changing the way they think would be a very effective way to change the nation.
He added that South Korea and the international community must work together to promote human rights in the reclusive state.
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney told reporters after the meeting that Moon said people in the North had the chance to understand the exchange of labor for pay at the Gaeseong complex.
The joint industrial complex between the South and North opened in 2004, but was shut down in February 2016 after Pyongyang conducted its fourth nuclear test.
