Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will depart for Moscow Thursday afternoon for talks with her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
 
Seoul's Foreign Ministry said that during her first visit to Russia as Seoul's top diplomat, Kang will sit down with the Russian foreign minister to inspect preparations for President Moon Jae-in's scheduled trip to the country early next month.
 
The two sides are expected to exchange views on seeking a diplomatic breakthrough on North Korea's nuclear issue.
 
Minister Kang is expected to urge Moscow to actively exercise its influence on North Korea for the resolution of the nuclear problem. 
 
The two officials will also discuss ways to boost bilateral friendship and cooperation. 
 
Summit talks are scheduled during President Moon's Moscow visit on September sixth and seventh.
