Asahi: N. Korea Hires Former KGB Agents as Military Advisers

North Korea has reportedly hired former intelligence agents of the Soviet Union as its military advisers.
Quoting a source familiar with North Korean affairs, Japan’s Asahi Shimbun daily reported on Friday that North Korea recently invited about ten former KGB agents to Pyongyang.
Under the supervision of the agents, personal security guards of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reportedly held a military exercise to strengthen their capabilities to detect and repress terrorist attacks.
Asahi reported that Pyongyang hired the KGB agents to counter the so-called “beheading operation” aimed at removing the North Korean leadership, a plan known to be discussed by South Korea and the U.S.
The source said that North Korea is seeking to produce defense measures to deal with possible assassination attempts involving U.S. state-of-the-art weapons, especially the MQ-1C Gray Eagle, a remotely piloted aircraft to be deployed by the U.S. forces in Korea early next year.
