S. Korea, Russia to Expand Cooperation on N. Korea Denuclearization

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov have agreed to boost cooperation on getting North Korea to end its nuclear weapons program.
Kang, who is visiting Russia for the first time since becoming Seoul's top diplomat, and the Russian foreign minister reached the agreement during talks in Moscow on Friday.
During the two-hour meeting, Lavrov said he is content with the level their countries’ ties have reached. He added that to improve ties even more Moscow will reaffirm its willingness to advance relations in various areas.
Lavrov said the South Korea-Russia summit on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Germany last month held much significance. He noted the two leaders will meet again during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) that will open in Vladivostok on September sixth.
Kang, on her part, said she is confident that the upcoming summit will yield significant results not only in global issues related to the Korean Peninsula but also in South Korea-Russia cooperation.
President Moon Jae-in is scheduled to make a two-day visit to Vladivostok from September sixth. He is set to attend the third EEF and hold a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
