Report: Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that the firing of ballistic missiles is a violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions and the U.S. considers it a provocative act against its allies and itself.
However, he added that the U.S. will continue its peaceful pressure campaign, working with its allies and China to see if they can bring the regime in Pyongyang to the negotiating table.
Tillerson said the U.S. continues to hope that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un understands there is a different path he can choose, calling for dialogue and the North’s denuclearization.

"We continue to want the Kim regime to understand, there is a different path that he can choose. The international community has been quite clear with the unanimous 15-0 approval of the U.N. Security Council resolution imposing the most stringent sanctions ever to be imposed on North Korea."
"We hope for the opportunity to engage with them as to how we might achieve that."
He added that there is a unified international voice echoing the U.S.’ message that no one wants to see a nuclear Korean Peninsula, and the U.S. hopes for the opportunity to engage with the North.
North Korea fired three projectiles from Gangwon Province into the East Sea on Saturday morning.
Under such circumstances, South Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam on Sunday left for the U.S. to meet with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and other senior U.S. officials to discuss North Korea's nuclear issue.
Departing for the trip, Lim told reporters that the two sides will have comprehensive discussions on diverse issues including their bilateral alliance and relations, and the North Korean nuclear program.
Lim and Sullivan are expected to assess the current situation on the Korean Peninsula after the North’s recent threat to attack the U.S. territory of Guam and the latest missile provocation. The two sides will also discuss their joint responses to these provocations.
The officials will also reportedly discuss a revision to the bilateral missile guidelines to ease the payload limit on South Korean missiles.
