Government Still Assessing N. Korean Projectiles

The Defense Ministry says it is keeping multiple possibilities open regarding the type of projectiles fired by North Korea on Saturday.

Ministry spokesman Moon Sang-gyun made the remark in a news briefing on Monday, dodging a question over whether the ministry reported to the presidential office that the North Korean projectiles were fired from a 300mm multiple rocket launcher.

The spokesman said that the Defense Ministry is analyzing several possibilities from various perspectives to obtain more details to determine the projectile’s type.

Following the North’s launches, the Joint Chiefs of Staff called them unidentified projectiles, while the presidential office announced that they were believed to be projectiles fired from a 300mm multiple rocket launcher.

The U.S. Pacific Command defined the projectiles as ballistic missiles.
