Moon Orders Swift Response to N. Korea's Provocations

President Moon Jae-in has ordered strong military reforms that can ensure the South Korean military's swift response to modern warfare.

Moon issued the instructions on Monday during a policy briefing from the Ministry of National Defense, saying the military should be able to immediately go on the offensive should North Korea cross the line or attack the capital area.

The president urged the ministry to set a detailed plan to complete the country’s three-pillar defense capacity consisting of the “Kill Chain” preemptive strike system, the Korean Air and Missile Defense(KAMD) system and the Korean Massive Punishment and Retaliation(KMPR) plan.

The president also called on the ministry and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration(DAPA) to root out chronic corruption in the defense industry. In addition, he pressed them to come up with fundamental solutions to problems in the military, including human rights violations, gender inequality, flaws in the military justice system and suspicious deaths of service members.
