S. Korean, US JCS Chiefs Vow Swift Response

The chairman of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) discussed joint response measures to North Korea's ballistic missile launch in telephone talks with his U.S. counterpart.

The JCS said Chairmen Gen. Jeong Kyeong-doo and Gen. Joseph Dunford agreed on Tuesday to implement response measures at the earliest time to show the allies' strong determination, including military responses.

Jeong said the South Korean government and military are gravely aware of the current situation and called Pyongyang's ballistic missile launch a serious threat to the Korean Peninsula and the international community.

Dunford said the U.S. administration also views the latest launch as a serious provocation and stressed the need for close coordination between Seoul, Washington and Tokyo.

Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the phone conservation, the first of which since Jeong took office, also served to reaffirm the South Korea-U.S. alliance.
