UNSC Condemns N. Korean Missile Launch
The UN Security Council(UNSC) condemned North Korea’s firing of a ballistic missile over Japan on Tuesday.
In a presidential statement, the 15-member UNSC said the launch was a violation of UNSC sanctions and threatens not only the region, but all UN member countries.
The U.S.-drafted statement was agreed on by consensus at a closed-door meeting which lasted more than three hours.
The statement added that it is extremely important that the North take immediate and concrete actions to ease tension and that all UN members abide by UNSC sanctions against the North.
The statement, however, does not threaten new sanctions on Pyongyang, in a likely reflection of opposition from China and Russia.
