Trump: Talking is Not the Answer for N. Korea

Anchor: U.S. President Donald Trump said on Twitter on Wednesday that “talking is not the answer” when it comes to North Korea. Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held talks on the phone two days in a row to discuss the North Korean issue.
Our Alannah Hill has more.

Report: On Wednesday U.S. President Donald Trump took to Twitter where he wrote "The U.S. has been talking to North Korea, and paying them extortion money, for 25 years. Talking is not the answer!"

He made the remarks a day after he warned North Korea that “all options are on the table” in a White House statement issued in response to the North’s latest missile provocation.

During a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe right after the North fired a missile over Japan on Tuesday, Trump said that now is not the time for talks.

Trump appears to have increased pressure on North Korea in the Twitter messages, dismissing the past two decades of dialogue efforts beginning with the Clinton administration as a failure.

The stronger rhetoric against Pyongyang shows that calls for dialogue have receded following the North’s continued missile provocations.

It is also considered a strong warning against Pyongyang, which may launch another intercontinental ballistic missile or conduct a sixth nuclear test around September ninth to mark the anniversary of the founding of the North Korean government.

In their second phone conversation since the North’s missile test, Trump and Abe confirmed their continuing close cooperation on efforts to address North Korea’s missile provocation.
