U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis has stressed that there are no discrepancies between President Donald Trump and himself regarding the North Korean issue.
 
After the North’s missile launch over Japan, Trump said on Twitter on Wednesday that “talking is not the answer” for North Korea. 

However, Mattis said the U.S. is “never out of diplomatic solutions” when he spoke with South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-moo at the Pentagon on Wednesday. 

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Mattis downplayed speculation that he was contradicting Trump, saying that his remarks "did not contradict anything the president said" and that the U.S. is not talking to the North right now. He added that his comment was widely misinterpreted.
