France’s foreign minister said Friday that North Korea would have the capability to send nuclear warheads with long-range missiles in just a few months.

The minster urged China to be more active diplomatically so North Korea agrees to dialogue.

Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told French radio network RTL that a full ban on the use of biochemical weapons and a nuclear nonproliferation regime were established in the 20th century, but global security is now under threat due to North Korea's missile development.

He said the situation will be explosive when North Korea has the means to strike not only Japan and China but also the United States and even Europe.

He said Pyongyang must find the path to negotiations and urged efforts by UN Security Council standing members.

He said that everything needs to be done to ensure the most recent round of UN sanctions is implemented and urged China, Pyongyang’s main trading partner, to do its utmost to enforce the sanctions.
