N. Korea Claims Success in Testing H-Bomb

North Korea has claimed to have “completely succeeded” in testing a hydrogen bomb that can be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM).
According to the North’s official Korean Central News Agency, the regime's Nuclear Weapons Institute said in a statement that nuclear scientists at noon on Sunday successfully conducted the test of a hydrogen bomb that can be mounted into an ICBM. It said the test was conducted according to the plans of the North's ruling Workers' Party to establish the nation as a nuclear power.
The statement went on to say that the test was conducted to verify the power-adjustment technology newly introduced in producing H-bombs as well as the accuracy and reliability of the bomb’s interior design.
It said that according to test results, the explosive power and all other indicators reached the design value. It added that there was no leakage of radioactive material nor any negative impact on the surrounding ecological environment.
The North's Korean Central Television said earlier that the ruling party’s political bureau standing committee held a meeting Sunday morning presided over by leader Kim Jong-un and decided to conduct the test. The announcement was made three hours after the test.
The nuclear test occurred around a year after the North's fifth test on September ninth last year.
